Georgia to play Florida State in Capital One Orange Bowl

The Georgia Bulldogs will play the Florida State Seminoles in the Capital One Orange Bowl, it was announced on Sunday.

The Bulldogs (12-1) will take on fifth-ranked Florida State (13-0) in the Capital One Orange Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023. Georgia and Florida State will square off at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., and the game will be televised by ESPN at 4:00pm ET.

Georgia (12-1) dropped five spots from No. 1 to No. 6 in the College Football Playoff Rankings after falling to the Alabama Crimson Tide, 27-24, in the 2023 SEC Championship Game. Florida State, who entered the weekend No. 4, dropped one spot after Alabama moved up to No. 4 and Texas to No. 3.

Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh Brooks said. “As the first bowl game Georgia ever played in, our program has a unique history with the Orange Bowl. Our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and fans had an incredible experience two years ago in this game, and we look forward to another great week in Miami.”

Georgia and Florida State last met on the gridiron in the 2003 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, La. The Bulldogs defeated the Seminoles in that contest, 26-13, to extend their advantage in the overall series to 6-4-1.

The Bulldogs won back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022 and haven’t missed the College Football Playoff since the 2020 season.

In the College Football Playoff semifinals, No. 1 Michigan will face No. 4 Alabama in the Rose Bowl Game at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, Calif., while No. 2 Washington will take on No. 3 Texas in the Allstate Sugar Bowl at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, La. Both semifinal games are slated for Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.
