Five-star QB Dylan Raiola flips commitment from Georgia to Nebraska

Georgia lost one of its prized quarterback commitments for the 2024 recruiting class Monday as five-star prospect Dylan Raiola flipped his pledge to Nebraska.

Raiola, who transferred to Buford (Ga.) High School to be closer to Athens and the Bulldog program, had a change of heart with the early signing period nearing on Dec. 20. Raiola has family ties to Nebraska and could have an opportunity to start as a freshman under head coach Matt Rhule, entering his second season with the Cornhuskers.

“I firmly believe that Nebraska is in my blood,” Raiola told ESPN’s Pete Thamel. “It’s a great opportunity to be part of something bigger than myself. Nebraska is a special place.”

Raiola was Georgia’s top-rated commitment for the 2024 recruiting class, according to 247Sports, and is ranked as the No. 2 quarterback nationally behind Alabama pledge Julian Sayin.

Raiola’s commitment to Nebraska is the third of his recruiting journey. Before committing to Georgia, Raiola held a commitment to Ohio State. Raiola also frequently transferred high schools throughout his prep career. He played in Arizona prior to moving to the southeast to play at Buford.

After Raiola’s de-commitment, Georgia’s lone quarterback pledge for the upcoming class is four-star quarterback Ryan Puglisi. For the upcoming season, the Bulldogs will return quarterback Carson Beck and backup sophomore Gunner Stockton. Former backup Brock Vandagriff announced his intentions to transfer to Kentucky.

Despite Raiola’s departure, Georgia retains the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class according to 247Sports. The Bulldogs have two five-star pledges, cornerback Ellis Robinson IV and linebacker Justin Williams.
