UGA football junior wide receiver Ladd McConkey has been named the winner of the 2023 Wuerffel Trophy, it was announced on Friday.

The Wuerffel Trophy, named after former Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel, is presented by the All Sports Association of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., to the college football player who “…best combines exemplary community service with leadership achievement on and off the field.”

McConkey took home the award over the other two finalists, Notre Dame senior linebacker JD Bertrand and Michigan senior running back Blake Corum, Michigan.

“While Ladd is a two-time National Champion, and one the most accomplished wide receivers in the country, his selflessness and commitment to make a difference in the lives of others is truly remarkable,” said Danny Wuerffel. “With most major awards based on athletic achievement and statistics, it’s a privilege to recognize him for his philanthropic efforts, as Ladd continues to make a meaningful impact in his surrounding communities.

“The selection committee had such a difficult job this year, as 2023 Wuerffel Trophy Finalists included a First Team All-American in Blake Corum and a Defensive Player of the Year in JD Bertrand, both incredibly talented athletes, who are equally impressive young men off the field.”

McConkey will be presented with the award on Friday, Feb. 17, 2024, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Ga.

The sixth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (12-1) are set to face the fifth-ranked Florida State Seminoles (13-0) in the Capital One Orange Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023. The game will be televised by ESPN at 4:00pm ET (Buy Tickets).
