Brock Bowers named 2023 Lombardi Award semifinalist

UGA football junior tight end Brock Bowers has been named one of 12 semifinalists for the 2023 Rotary Lombardi Award, The Lombardi Award and Rotary Club of Houston announced on Wednesday.

The Rotary Lombardi Award is a coveted award given annually to the college football offensive or defensive lineman “…who exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame Head Coach Vince Lombardi in addition to outstanding performance and ability.”

To be considered for the Lombardi Award, players must be an NCAA FBS College Football team member and meet the following qualifications:

  • Be a down Lineman, end to end, either on offense or defense, setting up no further than ten (10) yards to the left or right of the ball at the time of the snap.
  • Be a Linebacker on defense, setting up no further than five (5) yards deep from the line of scrimmage.
  • Must not come out of the offensive backfield and set up on the line of scrimmage as a Blocker or a Receiver or listed in the program as an Offensive Back or Receiver.
  • Be eligible to participate in the current season.

Other players named 2023 Lombardi Award semifinalists include Joe Alt (Notre Dame), Cooper Beebe (Kansas State), Jonah Elliss (Utah), Olumuyiwa Fashanu (Penn State), Taliese Fuaga (Oregon State), Laiatu Latu (UCLA), Jer’Zhan Newton (Illinois), Danny Stutsman (Oklahoma), Dallas Turner (Alabama), Jared Verse (Florida State), and Zak Zinter (Michigan).

The four finalists for the 2023 Lombardi Award will be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 15 and the winner of the 2023 Lombardi Award will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 6.

Bowers, a native of Napa, Calif., leads the Bulldogs this season with 41 receptions for 567 yards and four touchdowns. He also has six rushes for 28 yards and a touchdown.

The top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (8-0) are next scheduled to host the 14th-ranked Missouri Tigers (7-1) on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. The game will be televised by CBS at 3:30pm ET (Buy Tickets).
