UGA football true freshman place-kicker Peyton Woodring has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the 2023 Lou Groza Award,  the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced on Thursday.

The Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, named after legendary place-kicker Lou Groza, is an annual college football award given to the nation’s best kicker.

Semifinalists will be voted on by a panel of more than 100 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, former Groza finalists, and current NFL kickers to select the three finalists. These finalists will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 28 and honored at the 32nd annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Awards Banquet on Monday, Dec. 4 in Palm Beach County. The same panel then selects the winner, who will be announced live on ESPN during the Home Depot College Football Awards on Friday, Dec. 8.

Woodring (5-10, 175), who hails from Lafayette, La., has been named SEC Freshman of the Week three times and the Special Teams Player of the Week once. He is 17-of-20 on field goals and has converted all 43 of his point-after-attempts this season.

Woodring has the second-most points scored, 94, among the 20 semifinalists, trailing only UNLV’s Jose Pizano by one point.

The CFP second-ranked Georgia Bulldogs’ next game is on Saturday, Nov. 11 against the ninth-ranked Ole Miss Rebels at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. The game will be televised by ESPN at 7:00pm ET (Buy Tickets).
