Georgia falls to No. 12 Miami (FL) at Baha Mar hoops opener, 79-68

NASSAU, The Bahamas – Despite a combined 32 points by Blue Cain and Noah Thomasson, the Georgia men’s basketball team fell 79-68 against No. 12 Miami (FL) in its opening game at the Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championships at the Baha Mar Convention Center on Friday.

Cain led the Bulldogs (2-2) in scoring with a career-high 18 points powered by four 3-pointers along with four rebounds while Thomasson followed closely behind with 14 points. Jabri Abdur-Rahim joined in on double figure scoring with 13 points of his own paired with five rebounds. Silas Demary Jr. was active on the glass as he led the team with a career-high eight boards along with nine points and a career-high seven assists.

Despite an early 5-0 deficit, the Bulldogs responded with a 9-2 run to take the lead at the first media timeout. Georgia followed up with a 10-2 run to lead 19-11 before Miami (FL) leveled the score and took the lead heading into the locker room 39-29. Despite the Hurricanes capitalizing on momentum to extend the lead to 64-44 midway through the second half, the Bulldogs fought back to close the deficit to 10 points late in the game. A late comeback bid was not enough as Georgia fell short in its first contest at the Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship.

The Bulldogs’ will stay put in Nassau as their next game will see them face off against either Kansas State or Providence in the Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship consolation game on Sunday, Nov. 19 with tip-off scheduled at noon ET. The game will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.

I thought we did a decent job playing with a ton of energy defensively. I thought we played really hard, obviously we have got to be better offensively. Them going 18-for-19 on the line and us playing from behind hurt us as well of course. They did what they needed to do.”
